2017 Daily Art Journal - March Week 1

How can we be in March already?  It's crazy.

Well, I cracked open the next month's mini art journal and got finished the first week and put together a quick flip through of it...including my trip to LACMA and a painting of my kitty.

February Daily Art Journal

20170310_064327

For 2017 I decided to try something a bit different for myself and work in smaller art journals every day. I did this so that I would get back in the habit of art journaling daily, which I got out of doing at the end of last year because I got so busy with work. By having it small (3.5" x 5.5") it's not too hard to squeeze something onto the page each day.  Now of course some days I could actually complete the page, other days I barely got something on, but the the point of creating a habit was a great one.

Here's a bit more about the art journals I'm using and what I did in February:

Now I know you want to see more about the little journals I used. They are these Moleskine ones and they come in a set of 12, plus the box that keeps them all together...well, until I add my art to them and make them too big to stuff into the box!

Mixed Media Post Card Swap

I love a good stencil, so I've been adding a few Stencil Girl ones to my collection with their monthly kits.  (disclaimer: I'm just a happy customer, they didn't pay me to write this blog post.) I used the 9" x 12" peacock stencil from the January 2014 kit for these postcards I made for a postcard swap.

Here's a close-up of it...

For the swap we needed to have a 6 word sentence that's a life memoir on it, so this was mine.

I used Golden's fluid acrylic in Iridescent Silver Fine with the stencil...the paint is pretty light unless you get it in the right light and then it shines.  I love it!  The background was done with my gelli plate and some DecoArts paints in Pink Bubblegum, Cinnamon Drop, Razzle Berry.  I also finished the pieces off with my Faber Castell Big Brush Pens...I even used the black one for stamping since my regular black stamp pad is too dried out.

Ok, no more pink & hearts for a bit LOL!  I got a little crazy about that this Valentine's season.  ;)

Handmade Gelli Print Valentines Using the ScanNCut

Erin Bassett - Valentine Gelli Plate Art ScanNCut Cards

For Valentine's Day this year I thought it would be fun to make some Valentine Inspired Gelli Print papers to use in handmade cards.  Here's the finished results...

Supplies: Gelli Plate; Brayer, Paint used: DecoArt Americana - Titanium White, Pink Bubblegum, Cinnamon Drop, Razzle Berry; Golden - Quinacridone Magenta

I used my ScanNCutâ„¢ to create the cards...to create it I just took the heart shape, duplicated it, and then overlapped them slightly where the card's spine would be.  Next I scanned in my gelli printed paper so that I could line up the cards and the painted part of the paper I wanted to use.

Here's how it looked when it was cut out...

Next, I just added some embellishments...

Gelli Print Quilted Paper Wall Art

I love, love, love my gelli plate for making mono-prints!  I have a big box of papers that I went to town on painting so now I have a ton of fodder for collages and other mixed media projects. I dug through my box to find a couple of sheets to use to make a paper quilt and then cut them into 1/5" strips.  I then adhered them to a sheet of 12" x 12" paper.

I put them down in a patchwork like fashion so that it would look quilt like.

Then I did zig-zag stitches down every row.

And then framed it.  I initially hung it up here, but I think it's too small to go there so I'm moving it to another wall...but I really like how it turned out.

Ignore all the dog stuff in this shot...it's a real life photo. ;)

Oh, and the frame & mat are from Ikea.
