DIY Fall Earrings

Cinnamon Gelatos - DIY Fall Earrings

These fall earrings were really fun to make and I love how they turned out. Often times larger earrings are heavy, but because I paper-mached these they are really light and easy to wear.

To start off with, I used my ScanNCut to cut out this shape out of a thin piece of chipboard...it happens to be a Christmas ornament shape that's built into the machine. Shhhh, don't tell.

Next, I took a lot of layers of ripped up tissue paper and adhered it to the shape with Gel Medium. I allowed it to dry between layers and just continued to build it up to the thickness I wanted.

I even devised a clever way to allow them to dry by bending paperclips and hanging it off of one of my tool baskets.

Next, I mixed up some of the Gelatos Color of the Week, Cinnamon, and a little bit of Glaze and applied it to the earring bases. I allowed it to dry and then repeated that process until it was the desired look I wanted.

After they had thoroughly dried overnight, I took just a tiny bit of the Gold Texture Luxe and applied it to the earrings. Oh how I love Texture Luxe!

I applied it with a damp (not dripping wet) finger to the earrings so that it really just transferred onto the high points of the folds of texture. I also applied it along the edge as well.

I added a few beads and fishhook earrings and voilà, they are ready to wear!

Handmade Holidays - DIY Winter Necklace

HANDMADE HOLIDAYS hop - HORIZONTAL

Welcome Handmade Holidays Blog Hop Visitors!

Jewelry is such a great gift to give as a gift and handmade jewelry is treasured even more since you put your heart into it! Giving a piece that's seasonal is fun too since every year they will be reminded of your love year after year.

For this project you need:

CreativitE - Winter Necklace

Ice-plunger-360-155x300

I like using Ice Resin for projects like this because it's a jeweler's grade resin, so it's dries clear, is naturally doming, self-leveling, and there's NO BUBBLES...that's HUGE my crafty friends!!! Now while they sell this two part resin in individual contains that you can mix (which is great if you're making a bunch of jewelry for all your friends), I strongly recommend getting the one that has a pump so you can accurately squeeze out the exact amount you need of each part, it' makes it sooooo much easier if you're just making a few pieces! Oh, and you can just use the amount you need and place the cap back on to use it later. -Love that!

Yay, My First Rocksbox!

Jewelry quote

Have you heard about Rocksbox? It's a great way to add jewelry into your life with out the clutter, big price tag, and boredom you sometimes get from trendy pieces when the trend is dying out.

Here's a video of what was in my first box:

When Rocksbox first asked me to try out their jewelry I wasn't too sure about the whole thing...I'm really picky with jewelry...but my stylist did a great job with figuring out what would work for me based on their style survey. I love that the three pieces they sent in my first box work great together and on their own mixed with things I already own. Now the tough part is figuring if I just want to continue to borrow it or if I should splurge and buy it!

Chime in if you have an opinion!  I'm really thinking about keeping the necklace...it's too versatile to pass up!

DIY Jewelry Earring Holder

After moving (over a year ago) my jewelry became quite a mess.  Necklaces tangled. Earrings and rings awry. Day after day I just delt with it since I didn't have time to fix it.

DIY Jewelry Earring Holder 2Today that stops, or I'm going to lose my mind.

While I was purging my studio/office I found a 12"x12" sheet of punched metal that was giving to me at a trade show and although I loved it & wanted to use it I just never got around to it until now. So while I was at my local craft & hobby store I picked up one of those adjustable shadow boxes that you have the ability to layer stuff in, and crossed my fingers that the metal sheet would fit into it. (It did, just barely.)
DIY Jewelry Earring Holder 2The way I ended up sandwiching this whole thing together was by flipping the frame upside down and removing the glass.  Then I added two of the frame inserts, adding the metal sheet, adding another frame insert, added the glass, added a white piece of cardstock (I tried different patterned papers but it was just too busy and I wanted my earrings to be easily chosen without distraction.), and then I finally added the frame backing on.
DIY Jewelry Earring Holder 2Then I started the arduous task of sorting through my earring pile. Not fun...but I'm making headway...and I've discovered I have a lot of earrings.  ;)  Time to purge & make second earring holder!
