Do you know someone with a December birthday that always gets their special day eclipsed by winter holidays? Make them this birthday card to let them know you care.

Supplies:

• ScanNCutDX Machine and Accessories
• ScanNCut CanvasWorkspace
• Tattered Lace Pattern Collection 11 (Pattern TTLP11011)
• Green, Red, Light Red, Blue Green, and Black Cardstock
• Gold Washi Tape
• Glitter
• Liquid Glue
• Foam Adhesive
• Enamel Dots

Instructions:

1. In CanvasWorkspace, activate the Tattered Lace Pattern Collection 11 and select it under “Pattern Collection”

Choose the poinsettia pattern

2. Select the flowers and it will appear on you mat

3. Right click on the leaf and choose “duplicate” to increase the number of leaves on the mat.

Send the patterns over to your ScanNCutDX by clicking on “file,” and “transfer FCM file via the internet.”

4. On you ScanNCutDX machine. Click “retrieve data.”

Then click on where you’ve sent the data from, in this case the computer.

5. Click “ok,” then select “cut.”

And then press start

After it’s finished cutting, press “ok” and then press the “mat” button to unload the mat.

6. Repeat these steps for all the poinsettia pattern pieces.
7. For the “merry birthday,” download the pattern, then in CanvasWorkspace click on “file” and “Import from your computer.” Locate the pattern you downloaded and click “ok.”

Next, send it over to your ScanNCutDX by clicking “file” and “transfer FCM File via the internet.”

8. On your ScanNCutDX choose “retrieve data”

Then click on where you’ve sent the data from, in this case the computer.

Click “ok”

9. To assemble the card, fold the 6” x 12” blue green card base in half and add gold washi tape around the edges of the front of the card.

10. On the small center cut-out, apply a layer of liquid glue and then cover it in gold glitter. Allow it to dry.

11. Adhere the poinsettia together using foam adhesive to layer the petals and leaves.  

12. Adhere the letters for “Merry Birthday!” onto the front of the card and add on enamel dots or other embellishments.

The summer’s wrapping up and it’s time for the kids to head back to school! Here’s a quick way to celebrate, whether it’s for their teacher or for them.

Supplies:

• ScanNCut Machine and Accessories
• ScanNCutCanvasWorkspace (Free!)
• Red Craft Vinyl
• Green Craft Vinyl
• Grid Transfer Sheet
• Cardstock for the flag: Blue (10”x2”), White (5”x2”), Red (1”x1”), Green (1”x1”)
• Cardstock for the sign: Tan (8”x 5”), Red (8”x3”), Yellow (6.5”x4”), Blue (3.25”x6.75”), Orange (4”x5.25”), Green (1.5”x1.5”), Gray (1.5”x2”)
• Bamboo Skewer
• Adhesive
• Mug
• FREE Cut File Download
• Black Pen (optional)
• Colored Ink & Applicator (optional)

Instructions for the mug:

1. Place the red and green craft vinyl onto the standard mat and load it into the ScanNCut.
   
2. Download the free cut file.

Load it onto your ScanNCut by pressing “retrieve data” and then choosing where you downloaded it from.

3. Select the designs for the flag by pressing “edit” then select icon with the 3 red boxes.

Then choose the method to select just part of the designs and crop the flag designs and press “ok.”

Next press the trash can to delete them.

4. Next, press “ok,” then “scan,” then “start.”
   
5. Drag the patterns onto the correct color of vinyl and press “ok” twice.

6. Select “cut” and then press the wrench icon.
   

Scroll down to “half cut” and select “on.” Then press “ok,” and “start.”

7. Unload the mat and remove the vinyl pieces.
   
8. Weed out the vinyl by carefully removing the negative vinyl pieces.
   
9. Cut a piece of the Grid Transfer sheet down to size and then remove the backing. Place it on top of the apple piece, rub over it with your spatula, and then slowly peel if up off of the backing.

Carefully place the stem and leaf vinyl piece under the apple and transfer sheet, rub it, and peel it up off of the backing.

10. Place it onto the mug.
    

Rub over the entire design with your spatula to adhere it to the mug.

Slowly peel off just the grid transfer sheet.

11. Press the home button on your ScanNCut to reset the machine.

Instructions for the muffin flag:

1. Place the blue, white, red, and green cardstock onto the standard mat and load it into the ScanNCut.
2. If you haven’t already downloaded the free cut file, do so, and then load it onto your ScanNCut by pressing “retrieve data” and then choosing where you downloaded it from.
   
   
3. Select the designs for the vinyl apple by pressing “edit” and then select icon with the 3 red boxes.
   
   

Then choose the method to select just part of the designs and crop the apple designs and press “ok.”

Next press the trash can to delete them.

4. Next, press “ok,” then “scan.”
   
5. Drag the patterns onto the correct color of paper and press “ok.”
   
6. Select “cut” and then press the wrench icon.

Scroll down to “half cut” and select “off.” Then press “ok,” and “start.”

7. Unload the mat and remove the pieces.
   
8. Assemble the flag by turning the blue flag piece face down. Apply adhesive to one side of it.
   

Insert the white part of the flag on top of the glue.

Apply adhesive to the other portion of the blue flag, place the bamboo stick in the center of the flag and then fold the flag in half over the white piece.

Adhere the centers of the letters and the apple pieces to the flag, and add embellishment if desired.

Instructions for the sign:

1. Place the various colored cardstock onto the standard mat and load it into the ScanNCut.
   
2. Open ScanNCutCanvasWorkspace and click on the “Canvas Project/Pattern Collection” icon.
   

In the search bar, type “school” find the “Back to School Card” and select it.

Click on each section of the card to add it to the mat and then close out that window.

Select and delete the envelope pattern.

Arrange each of the pieces by selecting it and dragging it into place, grouping patterns you want to be the same color together in correlation to the papers on the mat.

In the file menu, select “Transfer FCM file via the internet,” them press “ok.”

3. Next, on your ScanNCut, press “ok,” then “scan.”
   
4. Select and drag the patterns onto the correct color of paper and press “ok.”
   

Use the “zoom” magnifying glass to zoom in.

5. Select “cut” then “start.”
   
6. Unload the mat and remove the pieces.

7. Ink the edges of the cut outs and add doodles if desired. And then assemble the sign by first adhering the colored pencils to the tan piece and then adhering the pencil tips.
   

8. Next, decide on your word, star, and apple placement and adhere them to the sign.

Not only is it National Craft Month, but today is International Women's Day, so it only makes sense to take some time to art today! I played around and used my ScanNCutDX to create a new piece of artwork for my studio. This a fun project to create, and you can customize it to your space. It’s also a great way to use up scraps of paper and fabric you have in your stash and would be fun to do in an art journal.

Supplies:

ScanNCutDX Machine and Accessories

12” x 12” Canvas

Gesso (optional)

Gel Medium

Glue Stick

12” x 12” Black Cardstock

8.5” x 11” Printer Paper

Paper Trimmer

Paper/Fabric Scraps, Book Pages

Foam Brush

Phrase Stickers

Instructions:

NOTE - I used my ScanNCutDX for this project, but other versions of ScanNCut will work too!

1. Apply Gesso to the canvas if desired. 

2. Adhere black cardstock to the standard cutting mat.

3. Load the mat into your ScanNCutDX. Select “Patterns,” then select the lacy icon and then select the lacy lady pattern (AR-O130).

4. Resize the pattern to 10.50” wide. Select “set” and then “ok.”

5. Select “cut” and “start” to begin cutting.

6. Unload the mat from the machine and carefully remove the cut pattern and remaining paper.

7. Select a variety of paper or fabric scraps to use on your project and tear them into small pieces.

8. On the back side of the lady diecut, use a glue stick to adhere scraps of paper, fabric, or magazines to the open sections of the pattern and allow to dry.

9. Cover a piece of printer paper with scraps of paper, fabric or magazines and allow to dry.

10. Cut five ½” x 11” strips of the collated paper.

Use gel medium to adhere the strips along the edge of the canvas about ¼” from the edge.

11. On the lady diecut, trim off any scrap papers that extend beyond the edge of the shape and then use gel medium to adhesive it to the center of the canvas. Allow to dry.

12. Add word sticker phrases to finish off the project.

But wait, there’s more…..

Bonus Project!

You still have some collaged papered left, so let’s turn that into a card.

Supplies:

ScanNCutDX Machine and Accessories

Collaged printer paper

Sentiment Stamp

Instructions:

1. Trim collaged paper to 8.5” x 4.25”

2. Fold your collaged paper in half like a card, noting where the center of the front of the card is. Select “ok.”  Choose a shape that will fit your stamp sentiment. For the example I choose the heart.

3. Adhere the collaged paper to the cutting mat and insert it into the machine. 

4. Press the “scan” icon to scan in the collage paper.

5. Move your shape onto the center of the front of the card. Select “cut” and “start” to begin cutting.

6. Remove the card and stamp the sentiment onto the inside of the card so it shows through the shape you cut out.

This St. Patrick’s Day you can try your luck at catching a leprechaun, and if you’re kind to him you might be able to convince him to share his gold with you!  Just remember that leprechauns are very clever, so don’t take your eyes off of him for a minute or he will disappear!

Supplies:

• ScanNCut Machine and Accessories
• ScanNCut USB 4 “3D Paper Craft Pattern Collection”

• Cardstock: 12”x12” green, 6”x12” red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple
• Cotton Balls or Fiber Fill
• Adhesive
• Scissors or Paper Trimmer
• Something to attract them: chocolate coins, glitter, rainbow candy or cereal, etc

Make the box

1. Place the 12”x12” green cardstock onto the ScanNCut cutting mat and insert it into the machine. Insert USB4 directly into your ScanNCut and retrieve box #5. (Alternatively, you can also load open it in CanvasWorkspace and transfer it over to your ScanNCut using the ScanNCut Transfer feature. If you are using this method, change the size of the box by selecting all of it, grouping it, and then pulling the corner handlebars out until the design fills the inside of the red boarder, and then transfer it to your ScanNCut.)
2. If you are resizing it on your ScanNCut, resize the box as large as it will go by selecting all of it and then clicking on the mat icon, and then the resizing icon. Adjust the height/width.
3. Cut out the design by pressing “ok” through the screens and then press “cut”. If you are not sure of the correct blade depth setting, perform a test cut first. To add a test cut press the back arrow, then press “add”, then press “test” and select the shape you want to use. Press “set” to add it to the mat. Now when you press “cut” and “start” it will perform the test cut and then pause for you to evaluate the cut and determine if you need to make any adjustments. If all is well, press “start” again and it will continue to cut out your design.
4. Unload the mat from the machine and gently remove the paper.
5. Crease the paper on the fold lines.

Add a clover shaped window

1. Place your unfolded box onto the mat, keeping in mind where you want your clover window to be. Load the mat into the ScanNCut.
2. Load the clover cut file onto your ScanNCut using the same method you used for the box.
3. Scan in the mat.
4. Drag the clover to where you want it to cut, zooming in if needed to make sure it’s centered in the panel and not on a fold line. Resize the clover by selecting it, clicking on the mat icon, and then the resizing icon. Adjust the height/width.
5. Press “ok”, then “cut” and “start”.

Assemble and fill the box

1. Apply adhesive to the appropriate tabs and corners to adhere it together.
2. Partially fill the box with a treat to allure the leprechaun. Make sure you leave room for the leprechaun to fit!

To create the rainbow

1. Cut your remaining cardstock so that it is larger than the circle you will be cutting out.
2. Place the pieces of paper onto the mat and then “scan” and “start”.
3. Load the rainbow circle cut file onto your ScanNCut using the same method you used for the box.
4. Move the correct circle to the center of the correct color paper and press “ok” until you get to the “cut” screen. Press “cut” and “start” to cut out the circles.
   
5. Remove the papers from the mat.
6. Adhere the circles together in the proper order – red on the bottom, orange on top of that, and so on.
7. Using your paper trimmer or scissors, cut the radius of the rainbow circle, then rotate the circle so that the radius cut line is horizontal and then cut the radius again as shown below.
8. On one edge of the rainbow fold it back about ¼”. Cut the orange-yellow-green-blue-purple layers off at the fold line, but leave the red layer to act as a tab that you can use to adhere the rainbow to the lid of the box.
   

9. Adhere the rainbow’s tab to the lid of the box.
10. Pull apart some cotton balls and glue them to the lid of the box as clouds.

Now that your box is complete you can place it in a safe spot so that when the leprechaun goes inside you can cover up the clover window and have him trapped!
