Hoot! Wise Owl Mixed Media Project

I'm excited to share my first Basically Bare project with you guys!  It's this little owl...

BLOG - Erin Bassett - Owl Wall Decor

I used the owl Stack-a-Bellies to make it, you can read about how I did it here on the Basically Bare Blog...I'd love if you could leave a comment over there too!

Here's some close-ups:

I used a Zig pen to draw the faux stitching on the embroidery hoop and make the little "wise" tag.  Thank goodness my girlfriend helped me figure out what word to put on it!!

You recognise that heart?  Yep, it's this one!  I almost used it on the necklace.  Oh and that safety pin...well it used to be silver...I painted it with some Tattered Angels Glimmer Glaze.  It took two coats, here's how the first coat looked:

Soak Up The Sun

Does anyone else change favorite colors like I do?  While green and turquoise will always hold a special place in my heart, yellow is now one of my faves!  (Previously I was on an orange kick!)  So of course I was pretty happy when I saw this new Fancy Pants "Beach Babe" line at Remember When.

Erin Bassett - Fancy Pants - 1977That's my mom & me!  :)  I love that pic!!  I distressed the edges of it with my Distrezz-It-All to make it a pit more older looking since it was freshly scanned & printed.

I ended up chopping up the papers and sewing them together.  Of course I sprayed them a bit with Strawberry Cheesecake Chalk Glimmer Mist (which is on sale for 50% off right now at 2P's!!!)

I also used the Epiphany round epoxy with the new vintage settings.  And of course a few i-rock studs!

Aloha!

After working on this layout I'm totally wanting to go back to Hawaii.  It's been too long since we've been there!

Erin Bassett - Zig - Quick Quotes - Reminisce - Island Escape

I was assigned this Reminisce line for one of my DT projects at Remember When and was happy to remember that I had these Quick Quotes Frosted Flourishes that I wanted to use on something sooner or later.  The flourishes are made out of a thin, frosted acrylic and have a couple of pieces of bling on them.  I knew I didn't want to leave them "as is" so I figured I'd doodle on them.

I used my Zig Painty FX pen (1.5mm) pen on them...here's a short video of how I did it:

I needed to use the stickers for my assignment, so I decided I'd sew a border around each of them. I also used my Distrezz-It-All to distress the edges of each of the photos, and a healthy splattering of Glimmer Mist too.

For the flower, I took two of the large Prima paper flowers and painted them with various shades of pinks and orange Glimmer Mist...layered them & put a sticker in the center...and then sewed them together.

Mixed Media Canvas: Sing Praise

Erin Bassett - Bird Canvas - Mod Podge - Unity Stamp Co

I love a good mixed media project and I miss doing them!!

For this 4" x 4" canvas I took some paper from by Kaiser Craft that I tore and used Mod Podge to adhere it to the canvas.  After it dried I painted it and then added the embellishments.  The stamps says "I will sing the Lord's praise, for He has been good to me" and is from Unity Stamps.

For those strips of music notes I just cut them out, scrunched them up, covered them with Mod Podge, attached them to the canvas with a bit more Mod Podge and then let them dry.

That bird is from Maya Road.  I covered it with gesso and laid one of my Tattered Angles swirl masks in it to create it's texture.  After I removed the mask I let it dry and then painted it with some Glimmer Glaze.  The eye is tiny hot rock from Imaginisce and the flower button is from Create Paper.

To make the nest I just took two pieces of burlap and twisted them up to make a nest-ish shape and then glued it to the canvas.  The sprigs coming out of the nest are from Prima and the lace trim is from Maya Road.

If you'd like to take a look at it in real life, it's over at Remember When.
