February Daily Art Journal

20170310_064327

For 2017 I decided to try something a bit different for myself and work in smaller art journals every day. I did this so that I would get back in the habit of art journaling daily, which I got out of doing at the end of last year because I got so busy with work. By having it small (3.5" x 5.5") it's not too hard to squeeze something onto the page each day.  Now of course some days I could actually complete the page, other days I barely got something on, but the the point of creating a habit was a great one.

Here's a bit more about the art journals I'm using and what I did in February:

(click here to see it on YouTube)

Now I know you want to see more about the little journals I used. They are these Moleskine ones and they come in a set of 12, plus the box that keeps them all together...well, until I add my art to them and make them too big to stuff into the box!

Get Crafty For Your Valentine!

Heart Candy Kirigami - Title

This is a fun decoration for Valentine's Day, but it can also be filled with candy and used as cute gift wrap since it looks like a little piece of candy! While it looks pretty fancy it's actually really easy to make, especially when you use your ScanNCut to cut out the pieces you need.

To get started making this project I downloaded the original design, and asked permission to adapt the design it and after I got his blessing I then imported it into ScanNCutCanvas and got to work adding the heart details and duplicating each of the segments to create THIS (free) cut file that you can download and use.

To see how to create this project, watch THIS video:

Supplies:

Instructions:

  • Open up the FCM file in your ScanNCut and cut out all of the pieces with both pieces of cardstock. You will need 9 – 10 segments cut for each “candy”.

To assemble:

  • Choose one segment to be your “hook”. All of the other pieces will hook onto this and will fan equally around in a circle.

  • Once they all interlock flip the piece over.

  • Again choose a “hook” and begin hooking all the other segments onto it to finish off the project.

Now you get to choose how you use it. Will you fill it with candy and give it away or are you going to make some decorations out of it?

Mixed Media Post Card Swap

I love a good stencil, so I've been adding a few Stencil Girl ones to my collection with their monthly kits.  (disclaimer: I'm just a happy customer, they didn't pay me to write this blog post.) I used the 9" x 12" peacock stencil from the January 2014 kit for these postcards I made for a postcard swap.

Here's a close-up of it...

For the swap we needed to have a 6 word sentence that's a life memoir on it, so this was mine.

I used Golden's fluid acrylic in Iridescent Silver Fine with the stencil...the paint is pretty light unless you get it in the right light and then it shines.  I love it!  The background was done with my gelli plate and some DecoArts paints in Pink Bubblegum, Cinnamon Drop, Razzle Berry.  I also finished the pieces off with my Faber Castell Big Brush Pens...I even used the black one for stamping since my regular black stamp pad is too dried out.

Ok, no more pink & hearts for a bit LOL!  I got a little crazy about that this Valentine's season.  ;)
